FAQsWhat is a "TIGER"?At Crotched Mountain we call our developmental racers "Tigers". They are typically 5-9 years old and are still developing fundamental skiing skills. Tigers do not typically participate in races. 8 and 9 year old Tigers overlap with the J5 program. Our coaches will help you determine which program your child should be in. Sometimes 8 and 9 year old racers start the year in the Tigers program, but move to the J5 program as their skills and confidence progress. Are training sessions mandatory?Good attendance at weekend training sessions is necessary to progress through various skill levels, but they are not mandatory. Typically the Saturday sessions are the most important since races for J5/J4/J3 are typically held on Sundays. Coaching is provided at Crotched Mountain on race days for those who choose not to race. Weeknight training is available to those who are interested, but it is not mandatory. Weeknight training consists of running gates under the supervision of a coach. New skills are not taught on weeknights. How old must my child be to participate?A child can start at any age, but they do need to be comfortable on "blue" slopes and need to be able to ride the chairlift. Parents of younger children may need to ski with them if they need assistance with the chairlift or if they fall frequently.
